My Happiness Project: Y is for You
The AtoZ Challenge means posting every day in April except Sundays, which leaves exactly 26 days – one day for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet.
See my Great and Powerful Theme Reveal – My Happiness Project – for a full list of the posts, updated throughout the month.
And be sure to check out My April AtoZ 2015 Posse, a Twitter list composed of individuals I have every intention of visiting during this year’s challenge.

Y is for You
I have tried to hit on this a bit throughout this series, but here is a post dedicated to the topic:
Never forget that your Happiness Project is about YOU.
I know that sounds overly simple and obvious. Seriously though — sometimes it’s easy to forget why we do the things we do; why we want the things we want. And you can’t do this for anyone else. You have to do it for YOU.
It’s hard to keep that in mind when you don’t really feel like you’re worth the effort. Depression tells you that it’s too hard, that it doesn’t matter anyway, that nobody else cares so why should you? Depression LIES. Depression is a LIAR. Depression is LYING BITCH.
You are worth the effort. And yeah, it’s hard, but nothing worth having is easy. You totally matter. And people absolutely DO care. Otherwise there wouldn’t be entire campaigns dedicated to Mental Health. There wouldn’t be suicide hotlines. There wouldn’t be support groups for the people left after suicide has stolen their loved ones.
Maybe there are people in your life telling you that you aren’t worth the effort. Those people are douche nozzles, and even though maybe they are loud and saying things in a logical fashion, they aren’t to be trusted. Call someone else. Call your mom. Or if she’s a bitch, call a friend. Or if you feel you don’t have any, call a hotline. Call it multiple times a day if you have to.
Maybe things seriously suck right now. Maybe you just got kicked out of your home and you have nowhere to sleep and plus you have cancer and can’t afford treatments and on top of that you just got a flat tire and OH SHIT what are you going to do now? I don’t have all the answers, but I know people who do. Don’t call any douche nozzles or bitches, first of all. If you can’t call anyone else, call a hotline. They will help you figure out where to start.
Maybe the feeling of not making a difference, of not mattering to anyone, is washing over you. I get that. I have been there. It’s hard to believe anyone can ever love you enough. And here’s the cold, hard truth: They can’t. No one can ever love you enough. Only YOU can love yourself enough. But the thing is, this is a universal fact. No one can love ANYBODY enough. We all have to matter to ourselves. No one is going to magically fill that empty space. No one is big enough to do that for you. That’s why it’s all about YOU.
You’re still not alone, though. There are people you haven’t ever met — I am one of them — who give a shit whether or not you make it through the day. You matter to me. Even though we have never crossed paths, I love you.
You are loved. Y
ou just have to love yourself enough to believe me.

Every day this month I will share a song from my Happiness Song List.
Today’s song is “I Gotta Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas.
- Have you ever had to call a suicide hotline?
- What do you do to battle Depression?
- What kinds of lies does Depression whisper in YOUR ear?
